Annotated Bibliography
Regardless of what travel book you read, those with packing suggestions
have one uniform recommendation: Pack light! Having said that, there are
quite a number of general travel guides on the market today. The following
is an annotated bibliography of books that may be of interest to you.
Unless otherwise noted each of these titles contains a section on packing
tips. I'm short on annotations, but these will increase as I go along.
Note: I am now a participant in the associates program at Amazon.com.
Clicking on the title links or book covers will open a new window that
will take you directly to the title's web page at Amazon.com to make it
easier for you to get your own copy. When you are done at Amazon, simply
close its window and you will still be here at this site.

Review: If you have ever picked up
an information-filled do-it-yourself book on legal topics (divorce,
wills, etc), chances are you were looking at a title published by
Nolo Press. So it's no surprise that Trouble-Free Travel
by attorneys Stephen Colwell and Ann Shulman will provide you with
all of the ammunition you need to learn your travel rights. Chapters
cover air travel, car travel, cruises, hotels, travel agents, tour
packages, travel scams, travel insurance, foreign travel, restrictions,
business travel, as well as a chapter devoted to techniques on resolving
your dispute. They address problems regarding tickets and airfare,
frequent flyer miles, overbooking, bumping, lost/damaged luggage,
rental car rates/charges, rental car insurance, hotel rates/reservations,
hotel safety/security, misleading advertising, timeshares, travel
insurance, customs and immigration, among others. The text is easy
to understand, and is not filled with lawyer gobbley-gook. The suggestions
are practical and realistic. Best of all, because this book is written
by two lawyers you know that their information is legally accurate.
In fact, I was amazed to find a gem in this book that contradicts
most travel books I have ever seen: According to this book, your limitations
of liability for carry-ons are the same as for your check-ins. This
means that if your carry-on is damaged or stolen on a domestic flight,
the airline is liable for up to $1,250. Better still, because this
book contains citations, you know that this limitation comes from
Article 22 of the Warsaw Convention, and that there has been an actual
legal case precedent already set for this. If you have never had a
travel-related problem, you're lucky. But be prepared with this book.
Includes table of contents, footnotes, contact information for travel
suppliers, plus an index. I recommend this book wholeheartedly for
everyone. [Note: You may purchase the book directly from the Nolo
Press web site, which provides free shipping with the order of three
titles; however individually this book is less expensive when ordered
through Amazon.com using the link above.] |
