Spring 2000 Issue

Welcome to the new year!

Welcome to the first issue of 2000! Has it started warming up in your area yet? I hope your holiday was festive, and that you didn't end up spending too much money on Y2K preparedness.

Has it already been four months since the last issue? Time flies when you're traveling! This past January, I attended the MacWorld Expo in San Francisco's Moscone Convention Center (which for me is just a bridge ride away) and got to see some great products.

My calendar has filled with weekend drives to Reno, Anaheim, as well as, for the first time, Yosemite. [That is, when I'm not at my great day job as technical writer at Sybase, Inc.!] The trip to Yosemite was particularly nice, since we vowed not to take any interstate highways. Back roads all the way -- those are the best when you're not in a rush! To make sure we'd continue to appreciate Yosemite, I even picked up a Golden Eagle Pass good for a year's admission at the national parks.

In between all of that, I have been very busy tweaking and updating the pages here. Here are the various updates and new features:

  • Web site search capability: You can now search for words here at the Travelite FAQ Web site! The advanced search option is available at the opening page as well.
  • Palm DOC conversion: Most of the pages at this Web site can now be converted into a DOC format for your Palm OS organizer. All it takes is a click of your mouse button on the icon on the left column!
  • You may have noticed a slightly cleaner look and feel overall, and more information in the opening page.
  • The opening page now has regularly updated news headlines of interest to Travelite readers. They are usually all directly travel-related, and clicking on the links will take you immediately to the articles. Stay current!
  • Pocket exPressions is now available to all Web site visitors! Travelite Packing list email subscribers got these printable booklet-format packing lists in time for last year's holiday season, and now they are available for everyone.
  • The Handbag: The handheld computing market is getting bigger by the day, and this page, in its nascent stages, is my attempt to start creating an online presence for Palm OS things... and if you're wondering if I have one of those things, the answer is a resounding YES!

Baglady Boarding Pass

A column and regular feature here at the Travelite FAQ, join the Baglady this month as she looks at world economy and politics as a traveler [don't yawn! it's not bad!].

Gadget Review

This month's review is for the GustBuster, an umbrella guaranteed not to invert even in 55mph winds.

ITLA 2000

In late February, I finally attended the International Travelgoods, Leather & Accessories expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center, put on by the Luggage & Leather Goods Manufacturers of America. This expo is the place to see all the new luggage products, so I was very excited, as you can imagine. You'll find my report of the event in this issue.
